Jeju Air has picked South Korean boyband TVXQ!’s Jung Yunho (U-Know) as their next model to target the Japanese markets. The airline revealed their intention to pick a model with a strong fan base in Japan to enlarge their market power.
On March 16, 2017, Jeju Air revealed that they signed a contract with the member of one of the top K-Pop groups. Jung’s bandmate, Shim Changmin (Max) is scheduled to join him in their regular activities after his discharge in later August.
The advertising strategy of Jeju Air is focused on enlarging their market power in Japan. TVXQ! has established themselves in Japan prior to their military enlistments and with their strong fan base in Japan, the airline is keen to maximize its brand awareness.
TVXQ! had topped the Oricon weekly overall and daily charts even after their respective military enlistments and the band’s Japanese fan club, BigEast, currently stands over 510,000 members.
Jeju Air has a total of nine routes to six major Japanese cities including Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka and Okinawa, and 20 flights flown daily from Incheon International Airport, Gimpo International Airport and Gimhae International Airport. They are preparing to make extra routes to Japan within the next one to two years.
An official from Jeju Air said, “As a brand strategy in order to grow to be the Low Cost Carrier (LCC) that represents Asia, we selected TVXQ!, who is the biggest star in Asia, to be our next model of Jeju Air. We will be aggressive in our marketing activities with TVXQ! in use, more than any other years in the past. This allows us to raise Jeju Air’s awareness in Japan and South East Asia and strength our company image.”
Jeju Air has been keeping their model strategy to be ‘the best Hallyu stars in Asia’ and they had collaborated with BIGBANG, Lee Min Ho, Kim Soo Hyun and Song Joong Ki in the past.
